A small update from WCG qualifiers

July 17th, 2010

Finnish WCG qualifiers are now over for our squad’s part after few tight matches and now I can give some updates from SaMZ’s computer. So more or less heres a few words about todays tournament.

The results were already kind of predicted since FOOZE, the in-game leader of the team, had to pass this event because of his work issues. The one replacing him was copz, so with a few week break from gaming and mix team it is not easy to get a good ripple. In the end we hit the road just to meet the other players and in the same time you get to enjoy a moment of the summer in Helsinki. In its entirety the tournament went on with pretty good vibes though the atmosphere in the venue was kinda insipid.

The results:

RCTIC eSports [9-16] Infernal Gamers
RCTIC eSports [7-16] munkka

The line-up in the tournament:

Henri “tErppa” Väyrynen
Otto “defcon” Takala
Harri “Qad” Savunen
Dino “Dezbi” Singh
Niko “c0pz” Takala

As normally, we got a bunch of pictures and videos on a memory stick from the event but I’m too tired to make a fuss about them today. The plan of the evening would be to go to the beach with atleast SaMZ and possibly Debz and defcon to enjoy the sun and talk about the future. Many have also been hoping for a new video blog so we try to record a few words on the beach. So the organization is little by little rising its head and in the same time we get to prepare for Assembly Summer ’10 which is only under three weeks away!

Now I’m starting to get ready to go to the beach so see you next time and you too spend a nice Saturday evening!

Finnish WCG qualifiers tomorrow!

July 17th, 2010

It’s been quiet around organisation for past two months. People just don’t have time to put effort that much for the organisation during summer vacations and with some work issues. It’s a fact that everybody here in Finland lack motivation for eSports at summer so maybe it’s not just me who doesn’t do anything around gaming.

As you can see, there’s no big news about tournaments and line-up changes in our website  and I’m sad to say that few of our players have left RCTIC because they were going to play at different clan or just quit gaming because of personal reasons. No-one just knows what our teams are going to do with those situations and that’s why we don’t know how things with their line-up’s are going to be. We are going to write more about those changes and some other things when we know more about them. That’s sure.

Tomorrow our Counter-Strike squad is going to play at Finnish WCG qualifiers in Gaming Center Level 7 at Helsinki. We headed to Helsinki today because their first game starts so early. My journey started when I woke up just 20 minutes before tErppa was going to take me aboard and my backpack wasn’t packed yet so those 20 minutes was pretty hectic for some reason.. Somehow i managed myself to tErppa’s car and we were ready to hit the road. First stop was at Joutsa where we met defcon who came aboard too.

Travelling by road wasn’t the best idea when the day was warm and sun was shining from solid sky. Somehow we found ourselves at Helsinki after sweating few hours in tErppa’s wheeled and seated oven. We left our car somewhere near Helsinki and headed to beer garden by bus just to relax before event. We had little chat about games and laughter for line-up issues and at some point we found Dezbi and SaMZ hanging with us. After few hours we went to eat at some restaurant.

After dinner some of us had plans for afternoon and I decided to go at my grandparent’s place by SaMZ car. During travel we talked few words about qualifiers and some other stuff. Tomorrow is going to be a good but pretty hectic day.

Now it’s time to get some sleep because SaMZ is going to pick me aboard at 9 a.m. Good night and see you tomorrow!

Dude, where’s my prize money?

May 30th, 2010

On Friday I took a look a look at what kind of feedback people gives about Solid Mojo, and I wasn’t the only one. The whole The Group’s irc-channel was full of big guys whining about small things. The whole episode started one single email which the head guy behind Solid Mojo had sent to gamers in the event which contained the following snap.

We was excepting such a bad development already about one week before event and that’s when we informed all that we can’t guarantee all the prizemoney. In the current situation our organization hasn’t got enough of money to pay any of prize moneys.

This was what we already excepted before the event itself. There was maximum of over 1000 computer seats and under 300 of them was sold and including all the spectators, organizers didn’t receive enough of money to cover all costs caused by event. But still players were excepting that the prizemoneys would have been payed.

I don’t doubt that there wouldn’t be anything to fix with covering all the costs of event. A computer seat to event was worth of 45 euros. Taking part in NON-BYOC tournament was worth of 25 euros. Most of all moneys organizers got was payed by visitors and most of them wasn’t even interested about these “pro” tournaments, atleast I bet so.

In NON-BYOC tournaments the competitors had computers already waiting by the venue and the entry wasn’t that expensive for them even tho there was ment to be good prizes in those tournaments. The prizes was much smaller for them who had a computer seat and taking part in some tournament.

The whole team from In7 eSports got my respect as they took a part in amateur competitions from what the prizes was high enough to cover the costs of event and to get some cheap pizzas from some local restaurant.

Email contained also this snap:

Organization is taking warrantles credit to pay entry fees back (25 e / person) to people who won some prizemoney.

Already the fact that the organization behind the event, The Group, including all it’s members whom was arranging this event, are working as full volunteer, is missed by most of people. They are taking financial risks to offer some tournaments to these whining kids. Players themselves aren’t feeling any sympathy to organizers and they aren’t even interested. The only thing what the organizers are receiving is a lot of bad feedback. And this a good example to think why different companies aren’t interested in sponsoring Finnish eSports-scene.

In our country’s gaming-scene it’s nothing to do with amount of people who would do their best to get even better tournaments for gamers. Our scene’s terrible situation is caused by selfish gamers themselves, whom couldn’t even think all needed things or think things from some others position.

Is there anyone left who remembers the times when games was played just for passion? It don’t have to be always about money.

Solid Mojo: Second day in photos

May 19th, 2010

On next day we woke up around the noon due to last night when we went to sleep quite late. CS 1.6 team’s semfinal was scheduled to start in couple of hours so they started to get ready for leaving to venue. We had only one car in use so we started to figure out how to get to venue. However we found out that it wasn’t possible to get there by car so we had to make it by some other way. Before we left to venue we still played a bit of Guitar Hero.

Solid Mojo: First day in photos

May 19th, 2010

The schedule at Solid Mojo were quite nicely delayed and due to that I didn’t have a chance to write anything or publish and photos from the event-area. After all there was around 600 photos in my camera’s memory card. After weekend with lots of work and great experiences it’s anyways good to write an overview from the event, even it’s already been few days since event ended.

My own trip started early in Friday morning in a bit tired mood. I made it to the train with what I was ment to be in Helsinki about 2pm. Schedule was really tight and it became even more tight since train was late once again for some reason..

RCTIC.cs placed 4th at Solid Mojo!

May 15th, 2010

As in our review of first day at Solid Mojo was mentioned, our Counter-Strike 1.6 team was the only team from our organization who made it throught to playoffs with placing second in their group just after [flag fi] PlayZone.

Today was time for playoffs and first was the semifinals. Our team faced team of [flag fi] eXelong Gaming which contained some famous names in Finnish scene such as Joona “natu” Leppänen and Slaava “Twista” Räsänen. Our team didn’t have much of chances and eXelon took victory by 2-0 score and made it to the grand final while our team was sent into the bronze match. Few hours ago our team played their bronze match where they faced [flag fi] munkka. Munkka overran (16-3) their map choice which was de_train. Our team chose de_inferno and this time it was our team who was likely overrunning as score after two both halfs was 16-7 in favour of our team. Last map and deciding one was de_nuke. Our team managed to start this map on the so called “easier side”, CT’s. However, munkka was giving some hard time and they managed to get a 8-7 lead after first half. Then our team fought back well and was giving some hard time to munkka but after all munkka decided to grap the needed rounds ending the map in score of 16-13. This ment that munkka placed 3rd and our team got 4th placement from the very first lan under our name! Congratulations boys!

Oh and by the way, our Team Fortress 2 player, Ville “robo” Seikkula, took a part in Heroes of Newerth (HoN) 5on5 with his friends. They managed to win this tournament and will receive the prize money of 500€!

Loggin’ and bloggin’

May 15th, 2010

Hi! I’m Joona “Jonsku” Ilves, I live in Finland and my favourite sport is eSports.

I have played online games since ’00, and my eSports career started with game named Action Quake 2. Nowadays I dont play so often than before, I don’t know whether it is boredom, or just the fact that I do not have the time for it, but still I’m here!

I came to RCTIC in january, when PassengeR asked me if I wanted to come shoot some photos, and do some little things like posting stuff to facebook etc. Now I have been five months in RCTIC, and if these guys want rid of me, they have to fight for it – I’m not leaving! There have been so much hilarious moments on lan events and bootcamps, so if laughter could kill me, I would have already died!

This weekend we are on lan event called “Solid Mojo” with 3 squads of RCTIC members.

On thursday we got our new t-shirts, just hanged out and played console games with Janne, Nico and Teppo, and had nice evening, laughter was big part of it too.

Friday was first LAN day. When we arrived to Energia Areena, whitch is place where Solid Mojo is, we start unpacking and all things wasn’t like they supposed to be. My videocam battery was empty, and charger was in home and Janne left he’s mouse to home by accidentally, so he had to play with some borrowed mouse. When we get over from bigger problems, everything was fine.

How did games go? Well, the only RCTIC team which reached semifinal yesterday was RCTIC.cs, so good luck to today games to them, we will cheer you up to victory!

And last but not least, me! This weekend has so far been fantastic like always with these guys, and it was nice to meet other RCTIC players in real life too. I have sneezed all weekend because of my allergies, but so far I’m alive. Hopefully today is gonna be at least as nice as yesterday, but if it’s better than yesterday – it’s gonna be sick!

But now it is time to say bye for a while, thanks for reading etcetc and I write again when it feels like that – you newer know when writerbee bites!

So long and have fun!

Feelings from Solid Mojo

May 14th, 2010

Wazzap fellas! Here we are at [flag fi] Solid Mojo with lots of RCTIC players/managers hanging around, including me. A total of 26 from our organization is here at somepoint of event or even during the whole event. As I mentioned in my last blog, this lan-event is my first one I’ve attended and this is quite great. Amazing atmosphere over here even tho the event isn’t as large as it could have as there was like 1000-1100 computer seats but after all there’s only like around 250-300 and not all even have been filled.

But then to main thing, hows the games going? Well, as usually on lan-events, there’s some delays on here also with the schedule. All games are delayed about two hours from the predicted schedule. Our CoD4 team already played their first match and CS:S team is starting or have already started their match against Team Menace.fi. Later on we’re going to do an overview from our team’s first matches in this event
